Blue tits are one of the most popular song birds in the UK. With their distinctive blue, yellow and green appearance. If you have a feeder containing peanuts, then you are sure to see them. They are great fun to watch as well as hear their distinctive call around the garden.

Natural habitat
Blue tits are often seen in trees, hedgerows and gardens throughout the country.

What do they eat
They tend to go for insects, seeds and nuts. They are very partial to pecking at milk bottles that were once left on doorsteps.

Ideal nest filming time

  • Visit nest box throughout year, possibily for nightime roosting
  • Nests starts mid April.
  • One, maybe two clutches.
  • 5-12 average number of eggs.
  • Some known to have 14-16 eggs!
  • Incubation for around 14 days. Fledge from 16 to 22 days.

Things to note
Blue tits won’t go far. They normally stay within a certain area of birth. They are fun to watch when building nests and communicating to each other when feeding.

Place the box in a relatively high position (2-3M above the ground) slightly away from a feeding station. Make sure there is a clear flight path to the hole and can be ok in most positions.
