Why have it
There are a number of predators that are either looking for a good food source or potential nesting sites. These can pose a threat to our native songbirds. Many predators try to enlarge the existing hole or create a new hole by pecking or burrowing in. With the predator guard, the robust wire mesh stops holes developing as well as help keep the box together. Without the predator guard, the intruder can quite easy get access to the box and its contents.
For example the greater spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) is often a big predatator of most songbird nests. This can be devistating when it happens or to witness on your bird box camera. There has been extensive research into how mesh can reduce predation. (Researched and copyrighted by Mark C. Mainwaring & Ian R. Hartley). |

Ideal for our camera boxes, adaptable for other boxes too
The kit is designed for all of our cedar and pine camera nesting boxes. However, it can be adjusted for other boxes as most tend to be smaller. Panel sizes supplied in the kit are 3 panels sized 27cm x 17cm, 1 panel sized 17cm x 12.5cm panel. These can easily be trimmed and adjusted with side cutters or tin snips.
How to install
The kit is very easy to use and install. All you do is hold the mesh panels to the side of the box and tap in the staples with a hammer. There are full instructions included showing you the best way to install with useful hints and tips.
