How long does a box have to go up before a bird arrives?
Well this is very hard to determine. We have had customers that have had birds nesting as they are busy erecting their boxes to some that take a couple of months. A good secret is to place the nest box near some trees and bushes for cover. Try placing feeders nearby and don’t forget some water too. Most birds look at several potential sites before deciding the best place to take up residence. Try relocating if there is no luck after a few months. But, birds are choosy and the fun of using your nest box and learning how they live, nest and breed.

Can I record the footage on my video and computer?
Yes all nest box kits enable you to connect the camera directly into either, TV, video or Sky box. Make sure the TV is set to AV channel, the power to the camera is on and the lens cap is off. Most computers don’t allow you to connect a camera directly into a PC. Saying this, we do offer a kit that enables you to record footage on your PC easily. You are then able to edit and publish the footage to any format or media like DVD’s, CD’s etc.

Can I connect the camera to a computer?
Yes you can, with a USB adapter. Most computers cannot plug a camera directly into it as it has to convert video/audio into a digital signal. But with a USB capture device, it plugs into your USB 2 enabling you to capture, edit and export your footage easily. Click here for more info.

We have squirrels? How do I stop them wrecking our box?
Firstly add hole protectors to your box. This will stop squirrel’s nibbling at the entrance. Next, place the box in a tree that squirrels are not keen on climbing. Place the cable inside plastic ducting so they can’t nibble at the cable and protect from the harsh winter weather.

My camera has stopped working, what do I do?
This is very rare as most of our kits are tested and work first time. Normally, if the AV screen is blue, there is a scart/TV connection or power issue. If the screen is black, it is normally another problem. The first thing to do is check the connections are all secure, power is on, lens cap is off and power is on. Try wiggling the cables and connectors and see if there is any movement or sound on the TV set. If there is a flicker or crackle of audio, there may be a poor connection. If this does not solve it, you may need to investigate it further. Please contact us. If it is easier, it may be better to bring the camera indoors for the testing.

There is sound and but no vision? How do I fix this?
The first thing to do is make sure the power is on, all the connections are firm and TV is set to AV channel. Make sure the yellow connector is firmly connected to the TV, scart and firmly into the camera. When moving the yellow connector, there may be a flicker on the TV. This often means that there is a poor connection. If you have tried all these, please feel free to contact us.

Do I turn my camera off at night?
This is purely upto you. The camera can be left on or turned off and will not harm it or the birds. It is a good idea to turn the camera on now and again to test it. During the really cold snaps, it may be a good idea to leave the camera on to keep the camera and the roosting birds warm.

Do I turn my camera off in winter?
This is purely upto you. However, it is a good idea to keep it on during really cold snaps. If you are not using the camera during the winter, it may be a good idea to bring the camera and cable in for the winter.

Can I connect several cameras together
Yes you can. All you need is a switcher. This allows you to flick between three camera easily and quickly.

There are slight wavy lines on my TV? What do I do?
This is rare but can be caused by a couple of things. Most often it is interference from strong electrical devices. Try moving your cable away from electrical units and see if it improves. While testing, detach all other devices from the TV as in rare instances, this can cause interference.
