Enjoy Spring with BBC Springwatch 2007.

This is a huge survey monitoring the arrival of Spring in the UK. The BBC, the Woodland Trust and UK Phenology Network are helping to collect information on the first signs of Spring. By understanding the arrival of Spring, scientist hope to understand how Spring is changing.

What do they need.

They are looking for people to record for the six signs of Spring:

  • First frog spawn
  • First seven-spot ladybird
  • First red-tailed bumblebee
  • First peacock butterfly
  • First hawthorn flowering
  • First swifts

Also making a note of the date and location. The more information they can gather, the more helpful it will help build a bigger picture of the ecology in the UK.

Why not have a look and get involved in this valuable work by looking at the BBC Springwwatch website. The website contains all the information you would need to record birds, insects and flowers. You can get a free spotters guide. Go for it, and get involved this Spring.
